Last month’s heartspark Adventure was “Flamenco Fun” where 20 or so heartsparklers and friends gathered together for a flamenco dance demonstration and lesson. The music was evocative and Laura Onizuka’s performance was impressive. She made it look so easy. Then it was our turn.
First, we learned to clap. Then we added in footwork. The syncopation coupled with clapping and stomping was like trying to pat your head while rubbing your stomach – trickier than it sounds. Add in a few well-placed “Olés,” a lot of laughs, a little wine and gazpacho and you have a great way to spend a summer evening. A heartspark Adventure.
It’s a testament to Laura’s teaching skills that in a little more than an hour we all were able to perform a complete a dance. What a feeling of accomplishment that was!
This was all thanks to the efforts of Mary Cecchini of Living Big. Now, Mary is busy planning an indoor rock climbing Adventure for August. She’s always coming up with something new. Details will be available soon and, if you’re in the neighborhood, I hope you’ll choose to join in the fun.
