“I got clear about what I wanted … and I got it all. Our lives are not meant to be hard. Wow, what a lesson.”
Do you assume life has to be hard?
Wendy was raised to believe nothing is free and you don’t get ahead in life without a lot of hard work and even that is no guarantee.
Believe & Expect. Can it be that simple? Does how I think truly affect my results? This is one of the 10 success practices you will learn in Relax into Success.
I grew up with the mentality that you don’t get ahead in life without a lot of hard work and honestly feel it has served me well. I have had a lot of success in my life and am proud to be a hard worker. To simply believe and expect with no hard work didn’t feel natural to me.
I tried to relax and believe it could be that simple. In fact I started with something small. I had always wanted to play the piano. I had the cash to buy a piano and resources to find an instructor so I felt safe picking something I knew I could achieve just in case this believe and expect thing didn’t apply to me.
So with my classmates’ encouragement I wrote down what I wanted: “I want to start playing the piano. I want to buy a piano within this price range. I want it to be delivered so I don’t have to arrange for a moving van and I want a teacher who will come to my home for lessons.”
Each day I plugged my parameters into Craig’s List and five days later I had an adorable spinet piano sitting in my living room with my new instructor arriving at my house the next week for my first lesson.
The point is not that I got the piano – as I mentioned before, I could easily afford it. The point is that it wasn’t hard. It didn’t require hours of driving from store to store, arranging for a moving van and conducting multiple interviews of instructors. I got clear about what I wanted: I wanted acquiring a piano to be simple and easy. I wanted – and dare I say, believed and expected – the process to be convenient for me and I got it all. Our lives are not meant to be hard. Wow, what a lesson.
