We’ve all had those special moments that include wine and chocolate: it’s that great bottle you enjoyed on the patio of your favorite Willamette Valley winery, the special glass you toasted with at midnight on New Years Eve 2012 in Paris, the chocolates you received as an anniversary gift, the champagne and chocolate you enjoyed together at that great restaurant on your honeymoon.
These magical food moments aren’t just coincidence. They’re a likely combination of thoughtful pairings, ambiance, knowing how to complement and layer flavors and the textures that are curated to spark these memorable moments. Here’s the great news: with a little industry knowledge and insight, you can purposefully create these moments in your own life.
During this Adventure, two very special heartsparklers, chocolatier Cristina Yen from A Yen for Chocolate and wine expert Sébastien Telford-Rake from DownCellar as took us through a hands-on chocolate and wine education session and then we’ll start pairing and creating magical combinations that bring these two loved products together. Snacking, tasting, sipping, knowledge and laughter are all included
We started with savory bites, sips of wine and time to catch-up with old friends and make new friends. Cristina the got us started with insight into the various kinds of chocolate available, how they’re labeled (and what these labels even mean!) and what to look for when buying chocolate. This hands-on lesson really tickled our tastebuds!
Up next Sébastien gave a short wine education session where we’ll explored the role of texture, key wine vocabulary and tips on navigating the wine aisle and menu. With this base knowledge, and a pairing framework, we’ll explored techniques for bringing wine and chocolate together to create perfect pairings and find our own match made in heaven!
